The instructor
Adam Same
Adam commenced his Jiu Jitsu training in 2002, at the now-defunct Monash University Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club, beginning a journey that has taken him to many different places and experiences. Currently, he trains and competes under Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Peter de Been, representing Team de Been in numerous tournaments, ranging from the AFBJJ Victorian Championships to the Pan Pacific Championships and the World Championships ( IFBJJ Campeonato Mundials de Jiu Jitsu) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2004. Whilst the Jiu Jitsu classes may be a recently established, Adam brings an existing wealth of teaching experience to the academy, having taught the children’s class at Peter de Been’s St Kilda Academy as an assistant instructor for a number of years. In addition, Adam has trained extensively internationally, in Brazil and the United States, granting him experiences that have informed his ideas of training and teaching. However, much of his philosophies upon training and teaching he credits to his mentor and instructor, Peter de Been, who implements a ‘curriculum-less’ method of teaching. This method, in contrast with curriculum based instruction, involves the structuring of classes upon a more ad hoc basis in response to the student bodies’ immediate technical needs. Adam believes that utilizing this formula, proven as successful in AFBJJ competitions since their inception, and in his own competitive success, he can give his students a quality learning experience that will equip his students as best as possible for competition or self defence.
